I've been perusing the paper this morning, and some of this stuff just FLOORS me.
First item:
Atlanta Police were serving a warrant last week at a house where they had purchased drugs the previous day. When they arrived, the resident, a 92-year-old woman, began firing at the officers. She shot three of them. They returned fire, killing the woman. Now a civil right activist is calling for a federal investigation into the shooting. "Ms. Johnston represented every African-American ...grandmother." Yes, she lived in a drug-infested, crime-riddled area where drug dealers often impersonate the police. But this was the fault of the officers who were shot HOW???? How were they supposed to subdue the person that was shooting at them? Hold their fire until they determined if the person who had already shot three of them was a little old lady, or a dope dealer? Wait until one of the officers was DEAD?
Second item:
Chicago. A gunman holds his girlfriend hostage. After 23 hours, kills her, then himself. The family of the victim wants to know why the police didn't prevent the shooting. Despite the fact that the police did not rush the apartment until after the first shot was fired. And despite the fact that the police NEVER fired ONE shot.
Third:
Kramer. Now this I thought was particularly poignant. As everyone knows, Michael Richards who played Kramer in the "Seinfeld" series is in the hot seat for using racial epitaphs to respond to hecklers. He has apologized on "The Letterman Show," but Al Sharpton says it doesn't count. Why? Because "Letterman" is a "white" show. HUH?
He has hired a publicist to try to salvage his career. But as Darrell Huckaby, in the Op-Ed section of the Gwinnett Daily Post, writes: "He would be better off calling O.J.'s lawyers than a publicist. They got O.J. off, and he's doing quite well. Of course, all he did was commit murder, which isn't nearly as serious as what Michael Richards did." Unfortunately, this is TOO TRUE!

I see in today's paper (Sunday, 11/26) that the hecklee's want a personal apology from "Kramer", and some money. Now there's a shocker!
