I had to go to the dentist today, and my dentist is on the other side of Atlanta. He's been my dentist for 30+ years and I can't find one I like closer. But it gives me excuses....
First, it was an excuse to have lunch with my friend, Karen O! and her adorable grandson. He is the best baby. He sat there and smiled at us and cooed, then he took a little nap while we ate and chatted.
I had a little time to spare, so I used it as an excuse to go to Trader Joe's. There isn't one close to me. I picked up a few things the regular grocery doesn't have. Like yummy strawberries!
Then I had an excuse to run by the liquor store. There are some relatively close to me, but not in Lawrenceville. Our county is dry so it's up to the cities to allow them. Mine doesn't.
I still had a little more time, so I had an excuse to go to Michael's. Found a couple dies on clearance. Spent about $5. Cool!
Going to the dentist is an excuse to see my Mom. She met me at the dentist office. My dad made me a thing to go in the seat of my patrol car, so she brought me that. Then we were gonna go shopping. Except my car wouldn't start! I've been having problems, but they weren't insurmountable. Johnny, my mechanic, was supposed to look at it a couple weeks ago before it stranded me. But he couldn't get to it. (Excuses!) We tried to jump-start it, but it was having none of that. So he's sending a wrecker for it. I just hope it doesn't cost me a fortune, since it is so far away. He said his guy won't charge me much.
So Mom brought me home. This turned out to be a good thing because it gave us an excuse to talk. She is VERY upset about Cynthia's impending motherhood. And I honestly think our chat changed her point of view on the subject. She's still not thrilled about it, but will accept it before risking her relationship to Cynthia.
I had planned to stop by Macy's on my way home, and had I been able to get my car started, I would have had to come straight home. So now we had no excuse not to stop by Macy's. Then we drove back to my side of town and grabbed a quick-ish supper at a Mexican restaurant. She wanted to go in Neiman-Marcus Last Call, and since it was right there, we had an excuse to do so. Then, we stopped by the grocery store.
My parents love my chili. I don't know why, it's nothing special. But they do. My dad had requested that I make him a batch in exchange for the seat thing for my patrol car. So we picked up the ingredients and went home.
While I was browning the meat, Cynthia called. I talked to her for a second, then I found an excuse to put my mom on the phone. It sounded like they had a good chat, and Mom asked her how she was feeling and all that good stuff. Whew! Mom still hasn't told my dad, and that's for Cynthia to do. He'll frown, and then get over it. Probably won't think about it again until the baby gets here.
Cynthia has her first appointment with the OB/GYN tomorrow afternoon. She asked me if I would go with her, since her boyfriend has to work. So I have an excuse for going in to work a little late.
And, when I logged on, I found a note from work that I DON'T have to go to court tomorrow. YAY! So now I have an excuse for not getting up early tomorrow.....

Don't you just love those kind of "excuses"! Sounds like you had a very nice day! It's great that you got to spend some time with your mom.

I enjoyed our lunch so much, but I'm sorry to hear about your car. Also, I'm glad your mother is coming around.
