My First Day on the Street

Okay, here I am! This is an awful picture, but then, this is me! This was taken right before roll-call today. Or should I say, yesterday. My first day on the street. It still feels like a dream.
I will spend the next six weeks riding with Mike, my FTO (Field Training Officer). He is a super nice guy. I told him I was sorry he lost the coin toss and got stuck with me. He gave me a hard time about having to rearrange his patrol car, and I dished it right back. Just like I've done for the three years I've known him. He said he was surprised at my answers to some of his questions. He didn't think that I've been out of it for so long, despite being in the administration, I would know as much as I do. So that was a good boost for me. But this was only the first night. I'm sure that before the next six weeks are over, we'll have had our shouting matches. LOL!
All the guys have been very supportive of me. I think it's because they know me, and trust me, that they are so accepting. They are not normally with female officers. But then, they have been trusting me with their paychecks for 12 years now. (Side note: April 18 will mark 18 years with the City for me.)
I was surprised when I showed up for work at three o'clock this afternoon and found a laptop waiting for me. I thought it would probably be a while for that. So I am up and running with that. They took my old, decrepit desktop out of my former office yesterday. So I was at a loss for a day. But all is right with the world right now.
No exciting stories to tell today. We handled a couple calls early in the shift. It was raining, so we didn't do much traffic. Who wants to sit around in wet polyester if you don't have to, right? Tomorrow is supposed to be a pretty day, so I'm sure we'll not only be busier, but be able and willing to do more. I'm looking forward to it!

Darya,
Congratulations! I'm glad you are following your heart! I will pray for your safety and I'm thankful for all the officers who risk their own lives protecting the rest of us. I admire your courage and thank you. I know you aren't directly here protecting me but you would if you were here! ;)

Darya,
You look so "official" in your uniform. I am so happy for you that you are getting to pursue your dream. I'm also happy to learn that if I should decide to speed, that I should do it only on a rainy day. That's a good tip. Any suggestions on how I can "knock over a bank" (that's street talk for "rob a bank" for those of you not involved with crime) without getting caught? LOL
