Friday the Thirteenh. Indeed!

Ah! The joys of being in the car by myself! I can scratch if I want to. Break a little wind. Pick my nose. Not that I would do any of those things, mind you. But I can if I want to.

Today began the "shadowing" phase of my training. I am pretty much on my own. When I am dispatched to a call, Mike starts that way. And he proofreads my reports. He is there if I have questions, but it's my call.

I started out with a bang. A burglary right out of the gate. No big deal. Take the report, get the serial number of the stolen computer entered on NCIC. Then an off-duty officer pulled over a car full of guys, being guys. One of the passengers needed to go to jail for Disorderly Conduct, and another was wanted by another agency. So Jimmy took the wanted guy, and I took the Disorderly guy. All this before 5 o'clock.

At some point after 5 o'clock, I took off my glasses and put on my sunglasses. Got tired of squinting. I ALWAYS put whichever pair I'm not wearing in the case and it is in the seat next to me. A little before 8 o'clock, I went to switch back, as the sun was lowering in the sky. I picked up the case, and it was EMPTY. Right at that moment, we got a call. So I handled that, then found a place to park to find my glasses. I was digging around in my car during daylight, wearing my sunglasses (so I could see) and using my flashlight (so I could see).

I could not find them anywhere. I started to have a full-blown panic attack. It was gonna be dark soon, and I cannot see without my glasses. I had Mike meet me and he went through my car. I checked my purse; I checked my personage. No glasses. So Mike went back to the places I could remember having been, while I headed to LensCrafters in the next town.

He checked everywhere we had been. No glasses. The have GOT to be in my car, and yet, they are not there. The employees at LensCrafters were kind enough to stay a little late and make me a new pair so I could see. I do not like these frames as well, but there was no way I could afford the same ones I had, even if they had had them in stock. So $400 and "about an hour" later, I could see!

I WILL be out there pulling every possible thing out of that car tomorrow morning before work. The lady at LensCrafters said that if they turn up in the next 30 days, I can get a refund on the new pair. Please keep your fingers crossed!

So that was just one more thing in what has fast become a suck-y week. My personal car died on me the other day and the guy who is working on it cannot figure out what is wrong with it. It has been having electrical issues, but up until Wednesday it would start - eventually. It is also having issues with the coolant.

Lastly... My dry-cleaning. We have a valet service at work, and I took in my quilt to have it cleaned. They have done one for me before and it was no problem. The one I took in this week was one that was my mother's when she was a little girl. My cleaning came back today, minus the quilt. Note to self: CALL them tomorrow!

What's next?
