Going Postal with the Post Office

I agreed to a swap that was due on October 1st. Well, with the trip to Europe and all, I got behind on my projects. Finally, about 3 weeks ago, I finished a project to send to my friend, Vicki, in California. And derned if I forgot to take pictures before I packed it up.

Anyway, I finally got it in the mail on Tuesday, March 6, after looking at it sitting on the kitchen counter for a week. I let Vicki know it was on the way. We waited, and waited, and waited. It still didn't arrive. So I checked the delivery confirmation. The post office doesn't even acknowledge that they received it, even though I carried it in to the post office and gave it to a clerk.

So today, after a couple of phone calls, I went to the post office. I told the clerk that I needed to trace the package. She takes her lunch break (well, it seemed like it) and when she came back, said, "You're right. It hasn't been delivered." Well, no SHIT! I said, "I want to trace it." She said "You gotta wait 30 days." Well, that's not what "Larry" told me on the phone this morning. So she has me go through the wooden door and I have to sit down and talk to some condescending old fart who is just sitting on his fat butt playing with a pair of scissors. I told him what the deal was, and he says that basically that isn't a guaranteed service, and that NOTHING you send is guaranteed to get there, EVER! I asked if he could call the next post office, and he said, he COULD, but he wouldn't 'cause then he'd have to do it for the thousands of others. I'm looking around, not seeing anyone else, but I digress. I asked if after 30 days I'd get a refund on my $4.05, and he said, "No." Basically, I'm just stuck.

But I went to click 'n ship and requested a refund anyway, since we are still within the 10 day refund period.... If it gets there, they'll let me know in no uncertain terms. But at this point, I guess it's in a landfill, or someone else is enjoying it.

One other postal service story: I use on-line banking to pay my bills, and I've been sending my dentist's office a check every month for the last six months. Last month, the $50 check I sent them came back to me as undeliverable. So I checked the address and put it back in the mail. This time, it returned that the address is vacant. In the meantime, with my tax refund, I sent them a check for $500+. That one got there just fine. Go figure!

So today's lesson is: Basically, no matter what, it's a crap shoot each and every time you mail something anywhere using the United States Postal Service. The service gets worse and worse, and the price for the aggravation gets higher and higher....

All this does not bode well for the timely arrival of my LFB Bird pages that I mailed to Kathy today. YIKES!

Darya, I share your postal pain. I can only hope that the things I send off will arrive and, although the ladies at my local post office are very nice, I never know what's going to happen until I hear if what I sent is there.
