Badge # 154

It's a done-deal. I took my oath of office yesterday morning, making me an officially "sworn" police officer in the State of Georgia once again. I work for the City of Lawrenceville, though. And for now, my arrest powers are confined to the city limits.

Here, the oath is administered by the Mayor. The Chief and I walked into his office, and he laid down his pen and said, "I won't do it." And the Chief said, "That's fine with me." Of course, they were both laughing.

When I got back to the office, I was given my badge and my gun. Then I started bugging the Chief about my replacement. I have to say, I'm very disappointed that he isn't keeping it in-house. His first two picks don't want it - which surprises me. But Cindy in the Quality of Life Unit does. I asked him about putting this new person in Cindy's slot, but he blew me off.

Anyway, he told me that he had made a decision on who he is going to hire, but that he wanted the Major and I to talk to her and give him our honest opinions. This person is a friend of his wife, and I know her outside of work. There is something about her that I can't put my finger on, and I'm not sure she's THE right person for this position. If yesterday was the first time I had met her, I probably would be okay with it. And her resume looks great. From what I know of her outside of work, she seems like the kind of person who attracts drama. I've voiced my concerns, and he acknowledged them. Beyond that, I'm moving forward with getting her through the hiring process. I do hope I'm wrong, because right now, it is the only thing keeping me from being positively euphoric. Otherwise, I'm ready to GO!

What a great looking badge! Now, I have a question: if you're not working in the office, how are you going to post? Are you getting a computer?
